Resouces and Tools for Local Search

I wanted to create a helpful resource page that you can always come to for all of your small business online marketing needs. These are all tools I’ve stumbled upon or used to help out myself or my clients. You may want to bookmark this one for your future reference and convenience. Enjoy!
Disclosure:  Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links, and at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you decide to make a purchase.  But I want you to know that I have used these companies,  and I recommend them because they are helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to buy something.  Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals.

WordPress Theme:

After trying several different themes we settled on the Genensis Theme using the Generate Child Theme. It has responsive design which allows the site to be viewed on iPad’s, tablets and mobile devices without losing the user experience. It is also very fast and I love the simple design.
Hosting Companies:

Blue Host – I host the vast majority of my sites at Blue Host.  They have been extremely reliable.  I can’t remember the last time my site was down for a second.  Also for wordpress blogs they have this one button setup that rocks.  One click and you have a full fledged wordpress blog that looks amazing.  You just add the content.  Click Here to see more at BLUEHOST.COM

Blogs:

SEOMoz – this is the ultimate SEO website.  Tons of great posts, videos, tools and advice.  Usually my goto site if I’m asking my self a question on Search Engine Optimization.

Mike Blumenthals Blog: Also known as Understanding Google Places and Local Search.  Mike really is one of the premier experts on local search.

Local Visibility System Blog: A local search blog from Phil Rozek.  Phil knows his stuff and when you are researching local search, especially Google local, you will see Phil’s name.

Business Listing Research and Services:

Getlisted.org – the President and CEO of this site is arguably one of the top local search engine marketing gurus in the world.  The site itself offers a simple but powerful tool to check your small business visibility in local search markets and will show you your deficiencies.  It is a great free tool so check it out!

Universal Business Listing – These folks do all the leg work to get your business at the top of the local listing.  I’ve used this tool once before for a client who wanted to do it up big and had great results.  They have a great reputation but the service itself is not free so give it a critical look.
