Most online businesses or platforms these days were started with a blog. There are many options out there for you to start your first blog and a few of them are actually free. I have personally blogged on Blogger for years and it is a good free blogging option, but if you are serious about starting a business and you want to take things to the next level you need to go to a self-hosted wordpress blog.

You may think starting a self hosted wordpress blog would be too technical or maybe too costly but the reality today is that it couldn’t be much easier or cheaper.

How to Start a Blog Using WordPress – Step by Step instructions

An Easy Step by Step method to Start your First Blog Using WordPress

Everything you need to know is found in the video above.  This video will walk you through the following steps, slowly and methodically so you don’t miss a thing.  And it is only 8 minutes long!  How easy is that.

Here is what the video will walk you through:

Step by Step WordPress Setup Instructions:

  1. Set up your Hosting Account
  2. Install WordPress – using the one click install
  3. Login to WordPress
  4. Write your first blog post
  5. View your Blog

It really is only 5 steps and there really is only one step that takes more than a few minutes and that is step 1 and that is only because you need to spend some time typing in your name, address etc. Otherwise it takes about 5 minutes and is super easy.

Step 1: Set up your Hosting Account

Your blog has to reside somewhere in the world on a server. Generally this is done by hosting your blog with a website or blog hosting company. These companies are responsible for keeping the servers running, making sure there are no interruptions to service and ensuring everything is secure.
There are many reputable blog hosting companies out there but in this example we will be using This blog is hosted on and they have been great in terms of uptime, speed and customer service. I have had no complaints.
NOTE: Full disclosure, I would receive a small commission if you ever did use bluehost through one of the links in this article. The price to you would still be the lowest available. While I would appreciate your using one of the bluehost links in this article do not feel obligated to use Bluehost. There are other hosts out there with similar services.

OK, here we go:

    1. Go to – here you see a “Get Started Now” button
      Get Started Now button on
    2. Click on the “Get Started Now” button
    3. Select your plan:
      a. If you are planning on starting a number of websites I would select the “plus plan”. It gives you an unlimited number of websites or blogs
      b. If you are just planning on one blog I would go with the “starterSelect Your Hosting Plan
    4. Select your domain name
      a. If you don’t have a domain name registered yet I strongly suggest you do it through Bluehost because it is free with your hosting account. If you go this route enter your domain name and click “next” and Bluehost will check to see if it is available.
      b. If you have a domain name already with a domain registrar just enter the domain name here. Later on you will need to point your domain name servers to bluehost’s servers but that is super easy as well.
    5. Enter your account  and credit card information.
      a. Bluehost is fully secure and encrypted. No worries here on privacy or credit card info
      Bluehost Account Info
      b. Also select the duration of your hosting plan. The longer you go the cheaper it is on a monthly basis.
      c. Check the package information at the bottom of the page. You don’t need any of these in my opinion and they cost money. So unselect those that are selected. That is it! Your account is live. You just need to pick a password for your account!  Next,  install wordpress!Welcome to Bluehost - pick a password

Step 2: Install WordPress

  1. After you create your hosting account and decide on a password you will end up at the cPanel or Control Panel
  2. The control panel is a busy place but the reality is you only need to know where one button is to create your WordPress blog.
  3. Click on the “Install WordPress” button
    One Click WordPress Install Button
Note: back in the day, before I started using Bluehost, you had to actually had to upload wordpress onto your host and it got quite technical. Not so today.
  4. You’ll then come to a somewhat repetitive page where you need to click “Install” and Bluehost (Mojo) will start creating your website.

  11. Keep these credentials in a safe place because these are what you will use to enter your website.

  1. Click on the wp-admin URL link on the credentials page or type it in to the address bar of a browser. In the example this is e.g.
